You only need two ingredients to make your very own homemade tahini. You need sesame seeds and oil – that’s it!
What is tahini?

Origin of Tahini

Is Tahini healthy?
Yes, Tahini has a ton of health benefits. It’s said to be a great source of phosphorus and manganese which support bone health. Tahini is also rich in thiamine which helps convert food into fuel and supports your overall energy. Tahini also contains monounsaturated fatty acids which are said to be anti-inflammatory. Tahini is also rich in antioxidants and is said to help support kidney and liver function. It has loads of health benefits!
Homemade Tahini
Yield: 1/2 cup of tahini
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup of olive oil (or any oil you prefer)
Directions:
- On medium-low heat, toast your 1 cup of sesame seeds. Stir them consistently and remove them once they are lightly golden. This usually takes about 5 minutes. You want to be checking and stirring them consistently as they burn quite quickly. A good indication your sesame seeds have been toasted enough is their fragrance. They will become quite fragrant and that means they are done.
- Remove them from the heat and allow them to cool down.
- Once fully cooled, take your toasted sesame seeds and add them to your blender or food processor. Add in your oil and blend together into a paste. Add more oil if your tahini is not blending well.
- Once blended, pour your tahini into a jar and store your tahini in the fridge. (It will last for about 1 month)
