Like so many of you, over the last few days, I’ve just been staying at home and trying to keep busy with home projects. And let’s be real – there’s been a lot of time spent just watching shows on Netflix.
This quarantine has me going a bit stir crazy, but it has also forced me to tackle projects I’ve been putting off – and it’s given me time to enjoy baking and cooking again.
One recipe that my husband absolutely loves is my homemade 1-hour beer bread recipe. I used to make it all the time, but over the last few months, I’ve admittedly become a bit lazy when it comes to cooking and baking.
So, since we’re all off for the next while and staying home (and since we are also trying to really shop our kitchen rather than at the grocery store) I decided to whip up my 1-hour beer bread recipe using ingredients we already have here at home.
I remember the first time I ever made this loaf of bread for my husband – it was years ago (like… 10? Time flies!) and we were living in our first apartment together. I got home much earlier than him and realized that I had all the ingredients for my favourite homemade 1-hour beer bread recipe.
I decided to make a loaf and added in some nuts, raisins, and chocolate chips, and then let it cool. When he got home he immediately grabbed a slice and loved it. And since then, it’s been a staple in our household.
What You’ll Need:
A 9 x 5 loaf pan
A large mixing bowl
A mixing spoon
Margarine or butter
Self-rising flour
A can of beer or any other carbonated drink
Sugar
How Long Does it Really Take to Make this Beer Bread?
It really only takes an hour!
It’ll take about 5-10 minutes to mix all your ingredients together, and then about 50 minutes to bake your bread. It’s seriously so easy – and so delicious.
This bread is quite fluffy which makes it a totally delicious treat.
While you can serve this up for breakfast, I also love to have it as dessert and dunk it in tea. Spread a bit of Nutella on top of it to make it extra decadent – yum!
Can I use Stevia Instead of Sugar?
Of course! Just make sure you’re using the right amount of Stevia.
Stevia is a great option if you’re looking to reduce your sugar intake, but because it is so much sweeter than sugar you want to make sure you’re not using the extra same amount in recipes.
For example, this recipe calls for 1/4 cup of sugar which means you’ll want to use 1/4 a teaspoon of stevia.
This buttery beer bread is the perfect loaf to whip up and enjoy with soup, chilli, or alongside any comfort-style meal. It only needs 4 ingredients and takes just 1 hour to bake! Nutrition information isn’t always accurate.Homemade 1 Hour Beer Bread Recipe

Homemade 1 Hour Beer Bread Recipe
Ingredients:
3 Cups Self Rising Flour
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 Can of Beer (or other carbonated drink)
4 Tablespoons of Melted Butter
Optional: Nuts, Chocolate, Raisins, Dried Cranberries
Instructions:
Begin by preheating your oven to 375 degrees
Grease a 9X5 loaf pan
In a large bowl, mix your flour, sugar, beer, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter together. Mix until the flour is fully mixed into the wet ingredients – you don’t want to bite into a pocket of dry flour!
Note: The dough will be quite sticky and thick.
Add in any additional ingredients you would like (ie. Nuts, Chocolate, Raisins, Dried Cranberries)
Pour your dough into the loaf pan.
Now place your loaf into the oven for 50-60 minutes. Insert a toothpick into the center to see if your loaf is done. If the toothpick comes out with dough on it, then it needs to be baked for a few minutes longer. If it comes out clean then your loaf is fully baked.
Allow your bread to cool for 15 minutes.
While it cools, pour the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter over the top of the loaf.
Once cooled, you can slice up your bread and enjoy!
